Today at approximately 12:30 PM, a clothes dryer in the gym caught fire. Thanks to quick action, the fire was extinguished promptly. However, a significant amount of smoke spread throughout the gym, primarily affecting the Mini-Gym and Wrestling Room. No other areas or buildings were impacted.
As a precaution, emergency officials were contacted and have been working diligently to clear the smoke. They have confirmed that the space is now safe for use. Practices and games will proceed as scheduled today, as crews are finalizing the clearing process.
Please note that after-school pick-up and student exit routes are unaffected and will continue as usual.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I would like to clarify some information on today's Modified Lockdown. We received information that an individual was on campus and possibly armed. Authorities were able to locate the individual off-campus and no immediate threat to the campus was substantiated and the individual was never on or around campus. Once Authorities made contact with the individual and we were notified of no immediate threat we lifted the Modified Lockdown. I want you all to know we do not take Lockdowns of any type lightly but also do not take student and staff safety lightly and investigate all claims to the best of our ability based off the information we receive. Again, thank you all for your patience and understanding when it comes to this and any other future concerns that arrive.
With the assistance of Belen PD, we have been able to locate the individual and thankfully, there was no immediate threat to BHS staff and students. We have gotten the all clear to lift our Modified Lockdown. Thank you all for your patience and understanding as we worked through this situation.
Good morning BHS Families.
BHS is currently in a Modified Lockdown. We had a report of an individual who may be carrying a weapon on campus and we are actively working with Belen PD to locate this individual. We are in a Modified Lockdown in order to secure our buildings and all individuals on campus until this individual can be located.
We have a few events this week!
There will be a Buy-Out for Thursday's Boys Basketball Tournament starting January 7th until 11am January 8th. Students who had good attendance (less than 10% days absent) and no D's or F's for S2 are eligible to purchase a buyout ticket for Thursday's BHS Varsity Basketball game at 11AM. Buyout tickets will cost $3 and students who are eligible will find a virtual pass in their 5-Star account. Students must show this virtual ticket to Alane or Tristen in the front office at the time of purchase in order to receive their ticket to the game.
Friday, we will be recognizing our students who demonstrated perfect attendance for all of their classes the week of December 15th-19th with popcorn, video games, and movies in the Library during Student Development. If you are eligible for this, you will receive your ticket to this event in your 5-Star account. Please report to your Student Development class on Friday and show this e-ticket to your SD teacher when students are released for the event.
Happy New Year!
I hope you had a restful and relaxing holiday break and are ready to finish out the Spring 2026 semester strong!
Belen High School leadership is trying to gather interest information for the possibility of offering after-school credit recovery for students who may need it in order to increase their chances of graduating on-time. We are also exploring the possibility of using peer tutors for students to help with some of our students who struggle in certain subject areas. We are asking that all of our students complete this survey by Sunday, January 11th. Students will need to use their school issued email account in order to complete the form.
After-School Credit Recovery Interest Survey – Fill out form
Just a reminder that tomorrow we will be celebrating our students who earned our 2nd attendance challenge reward. In and effort to improve on our practices, students will receive their ticket to this event through their 5-Star account. These will be the only tickets that will be accepted. We will be on on our Extended Lunch bell schedule https://aptg.co/r4NXvb. Please plan accordingly.

This week BHS Drama is opening Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.
We would like to send out a cautionary note to all of the contents of this particular performance. The original book is the world's best-selling mystery and, with over 100 million copies sold, is one of the best-selling books of all time. The novel has been listed as the seventh best-selling title (any language, including reference works) of all time. It has also been taught in high school classrooms around the world including in our senior English classes in previous years. While our society is challenged by issues surrounding these topics we felt it was worth producing and (spoiler alert) "the bad guy gets it in the end." "Gunshots" that happen during the final scene of the production. Our Director (Mr. Caleb Ramsell) has thoughtfully and deliberately chosen to maintain this action from the original production while eliminating a forced suicide by a female actor.
With Administrative approval and having notified Belen Police Department and our BHS security Team. We want you to be aware that a starters pistol (referred to within the Production team as "The Prop") will be used for the final scene of the play. Weapons handling safety protocols will be in place ( an adult will control and check "The Prop," hand it to the actor for the scene and will immediately take control of The Prop when it comes off stage.)
What this means to you - -There will be 3 loud gun shots (the sound effect) during 3rd/4th period Wednesday Dec 3 (daytime performance), and again during the evening productions Dec, 4, 5 and 6.
BHS Drama has worked diligently to put on this performance and would like to invite you to come see one of our evening shows on Dec. 4th, 5th, or 6th. Doors open at 6:30PM. BHS Faculty and Staff get in free with their ID.
Thank you,
Caleb Ramsell & Stephen Boliver
