I hope this athletics news update finds everyone doing well. As we prepare for the upcoming school year we have remained positive and hopeful that our student-athletes will have competition. I would like to begin by complimenting our coaches and athletes for doing a great job with summer workouts. We have had several of our programs working very hard since June 15th. All of our coaches were diligent in following state mandated guidelines while preparing our athletes for the upcoming seasons. All of our sports specific practices were ran in a safe and organized environment. A few of our programs that were considered to be in a high risk category with Covid-19 were not able to have a sports specific practice. However, those coaches came together and were able to conduct strength training and conditioning workouts.
Here are a few reminders with the school year right around the corner:
Belen Consolidated Schools will have a dead period of no practices beginning on Monday August 24th and running through September 4th. The purpose of this is to allow our students and staff a transition period into the school year.
Off season practices will resume on Tuesday September 8th (the day after Labor Day).
The following programs are scheduled to begin their official season on Monday October 5th: High School and Middle School Volleyball, Cross Country, and Fall Golf. Schedules are posted on the website.
All other sports are scheduled to begin second semester.
As we are all aware, we are in a time of constant change and some information is subject to change. We will do our best to communicate any changes that occur. GO EAGLES!

Belen Eagle Athletic News:
With the constant changes we are facing it's important to stay positive and resilient. "We will play again!" As we move to start the school year with remote learning, there are a couple of changes to our athletic seasons. The New Mexico Actives Association made modifications to a couple of programs as follows:
Cross Country: New start date, October 5th
Fall Golf: New start date, October 5th
All other programs remained the same from our last update.
We will continue to follow the mandated guidelines given to us from the state and NMAA . Our goal is for our student-athletes to compete while being in a safe environment. We remain confident that we will play again. Go Eagles!
On a final note, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ALL Belen Consolidated School's athletic facilities are closed to the public.

Belen Eagle Athletic News: We are in a world of constant change with the Covid-19 pandemic upon us. Our coaches and athletes have been doing a great job as we began summer athletic workouts on June 15th. We were able to participate in workouts following state mandated directives and guidelines. However, a few of our athletic programs have been halted due to being in a high risk category. These programs include Football, Boys and Girls Soccer, Wrestling, and Boys and Girls Basketball. Several of our programs are still conducting summer workouts strictly abiding by the state guidelines. The good news is the goal is still to have sport seasons for all programs throughout the 2020-2021 school year.
The New Mexico Actives Association released a master calendar and table of events for the upcoming school year. As we mentioned we are in a world of constant change, therefore all dates and game limits are subject to change. The following is the modified sports seasons official start date through the programs state championship date:
Fall Season
Cross Country: Start date September 14th-November 14th.
Fall Golf: Start Date September 14th. Golf is a year round sport and will run through June 22nd.
Volleyball: Start Date October 5th-December 12th
Winter Season
Boys and Girls Basketball: Start Date January 4th-March 13th
Swimming and Diving: Start Date January 4th-March 13th
Boys and Girls Soccer: Start Date February 15th-April 17th
Football: Start Date February 22nd-May 8th
Cheer: Start Date September 14th-March 27th
Spring Season
Baseball: Start Date April 5th-June 26th
Softball: Start Date April 5th-June 26th
Boys and Girls Tennis: Start Date April 5th-June 19th
Boys and Girls Track: Start Date April 5th-June 26th
Wrestling: Start Date April 5th-June 12th
As you can see there have been some changes. Some sports have been moved to a different season and season lengths have been modified. The one thing that has not changed is that the Belen Athletic Department is working hard to make sure that all of our student-athletes have the chance to participate in a clean, healthy, and safe environment. We will continue to operate within the guidelines that the state of New Mexico and the NMAA has set for us, but we feel confident that we will play again! Please check back for any updates. We will post them as they happen.
As we prepare for the upcoming school year there are many uncertainties. Belen Consolidated Schools is working on preparing for students to re-enter school in the fall. The Public Education Department is working with a task force to provide guidance. The link to access the 2020-2021 Student Calendar that was approved by the School Board is: https://go.aws/37m3V2p. We are anticipating that we will start school as scheduled on August 18th. We are hopeful that it will be in-person with all our students but are preparing for variations that may need to take place do to COVID-19 CDC guidelines. We recognize that students are our foundation and will make decisions that positively impact their learning and well-being.
At this time out of an abundance of caution all Belen Consolidated School buildings will be closed to the public. This does include all athletic fields and gyms. We will continue to provide two different opportunities for children to have access to meals. Buses will be delivering meals along their regular scheduled elementary morning bus routes. Grab-n-go meal services will continue at all school sites between the hours of 10:30 am and 12:30 pm.
School sites served 647 total meals.
Meals can be picked up between 10:30 am and 12:30 pm daily.
GREAT JOB EVERYONE! Being here for our community shows the District's continued commitment to putting students needs first.
Have a Great Eagle Day!
