The Belen Consolidated Schools are committed to providing an open and transparent platform for the community to engage with prospective candidates for the upcoming Board of Education elections. To facilitate this dialogue, BCS had scheduled a townhall meeting on Tuesday, October 17th, 2023, at the BCS Boardroom. However, due to recent developments, there will be a change in the event's moderator.
Originally, Mayor Robert Noblin was slated to moderate the forum, which would include questions determined by the district and public submissions. This decision was made with the intention of ensuring a fair and balanced discussion, as all candidates would be asked the same questions.
Regrettably, concerns have arisen regarding Mayor Noblin’s involvement in the event due to the Mayor having an employee who is a write-in candidate on the ballot. After thoughtful consideration and discussion between Mayor Noblin and BCS superintendent Lawrence Sanchez, it has been mutually agreed upon that Mayor Noblin will step aside as the moderator.
Mayor Noblin expressed his desire to avoid any potential conflicts or distractions that may arise from his involvement and is fully supportive of the decision. BCS remains committed to ensuring a fair and unbiased townhall meeting for the public to interact with prospective candidates for the Board of Education elections. We are currently in the process of selecting a new moderator who will continue to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and community engagement. Further details about the replacement moderator will be communicated promptly to all stakeholders.
We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the community as we work to provide the best possible platform for the upcoming elections.
